MANILA, Philippines – Former President and now Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo salutes Filipino teachers this World Teacher’s Day.
In a short statement, GMA thanked the teachers for celebrating today, October 5, which he called the “fountain of our youth’s lasting knowledge and skills.”
As a gift, GMA filed the bill that will promote to be “globally competitive” in the field of science, technology and mathematics and to encourage teachers to develop more knowledge and skills through additional incentives.
Included in House Bill 487 which will be called the “Developing Globally Competitive Science and Mathematics Teachers Act of 2022” is to lay out the forward-looking “rewarding professional career for qualified science and mathematics teachers” in the country.
In this way according to the proposal, the specialization of science and math teachers will be cultivated to stay in their profession as well as to convince students to continue their career in teaching mathematics and science.
Among the important provisions of HB 487 are the granting of scholarships and continuous specialized trainings to teachers who now teach mathematics and science subjects, providing higher salaries and allowing college graduates to teach subjects are science and math even before they pass the Licensure Examination for Teacher.
“In effect, this bill will ensure that teaching in the fields of science and mathematics will be as competitive as those of other professions, and thus increase the number of competent teachers who will prepare Filipinos for global excellence,” binigyang diin pa ni GMA.
Senior Deputy Speaker Arroyo also insisted that the importance teachers play in the lives of Filipino youth is invaluable, so even in such occasions, their heroism should be appreciated. Meliza Maluntag
