Filed disqualification cases, petition to the Comelec will end this year

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections or Comelec assured that all “disqualification cases and petitions” related to the past 2022 Elections will be completed this year.

According to Comelec spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco, the cases filed with the poll body are currently being heard in the preliminary investigation.

He said, there are pending “petitions to cancel certificate of candidacy” and “petitions for disqualification.”

Laudingco said the commitment of the Comelec en banc is to finish all pending cases and petitions this year.

As he said in the cases of vote buying, Laudiangco will ensure that it will be decided more quickly because only 17 cases of “vote-buying” were filed with the Comelec against various candidates during the election.

“It used to be difficult for us because of the number of cases we received, so we are happy because of Republic Act 9369 or Automation law, the power of the Comelec is equal to that of the fiscal to hear such a case”, Laudingco said. in his appearance at the Capitol in Manila Bay.

“There is a provision in the Automation law that the jurisdiction of other prosecuting arms of the government particularly the national prosecution service is concurrent with Comelec”, added the spokesperson of the poll body. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
