Contractor on collapsing scaffolding at QC site, stop work first

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City local government unit (LGU) said this Wednesday, October 5 that the private contractor of the city’s housing project involved in yesterday’s scaffolding collapse incident, which killed a worker, has temporarily stopped work.

The work stoppage of A Dela Cruz Builders, contractor, is so that the police can properly investigate the place where the incident took place.

According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the metal scaffolding suddenly collapsed at the construction site in Sto. Cristo Street, Barangay Balingasa past 9 o’clock in the morning causing the workers to fall.

Francis Azures, a 45-year-old resident of Barangay Baesa, died in the accident.

10 others were hurt in the incident that all received minor injuries.

In a statement released by the Quezon City LGU yesterday, October 4, it said that the private contractor has extended assistance to the families of the victims.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if there was a lack of compliance with standard construction protocol and other means to ensure that this does not happen again. RNT/JGC
