MANILA, Philippines – Filipino contender Jade Bornea is convinced that her condition was the cause of Jerwin Ancajas’ defeat in his first fight against Fernando Martinez last February.
Ancajas, 33-2-2 with 22 knockouts as a pro, was defeated and stripped of the world title via unanimous decision in February.
He will face the Argentinian again in a rematch on October 9 (PH time) at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
“I think conditioning is the difference. We trained and sparred together at the Wild Card Gym and he gave it his all. He is ready, but his conditioning is not one hundred percent [fight] day,” said Bornea.
Bornea is currently ranked No. 1 contender for the IBF 115-pound world title and he knows how good Ancajas can be when he’s in tip-top shape.
According to the Filipino pug, Ancajas can move up two weight classes and be just as effective if not better.
“He’s really big and good at weighing in, but his body doesn’t recover after the weigh-in, that’s why it happened to him. He could move up to 118 or 122 pounds because he is very skilled and has height,” added Bornea. RICO NAVARRO
