MANILA, Philippines- DOH-OIC Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the agency has been talking to the Department of Education or DepEd regarding the alleged COVID-19 transmission in schools since face-to-face classes returned.
According to Vergeire, they talked to DepEd to consolidate and unify the data because their reporting is still incomplete.
“They are still adjusting their reporting – so their number or statistics that they have right now is under reported,” Vergeire said in the press briefing.
He added, the DOH based on their record where it is seen, how many are sick in the age groups of children.
“Right now we don’t have an accurate number, we won’t release it until we harmonize our statistics with DepEd,” Vergeire said.
He also said that it is expected that there are only cases although the illness of the young people is not serious.
“There is transmission that happens but it is interrupted immediately because our surveillance or safety officers in school-so they immediately monitor and as soon as they identify a patient or a learner who is sick they are sent home and referred to their local government units to be- already manage and monitor close contacts.”
Vergeire once again encouraged parents to vaccinate their children because he said the main defense of students against such diseases is the vaccine. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
