Beermen changed import

MANILA, Philippines – The San Miguel Beermen have changed imports for the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

SMB replaced former NBA 2012 fifth overall draft pick Thomas Robinson with another ex-NBA big man, Diamond Stone, according to a report from the PBA.

The move took place despite the Beermen not having a game in this conference because most of their players are practicing with the Gilas Pilipinas national team.

Robinson, a journeyman NBA power forward with career averages of 4.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 313 games, was supposed to lead a formidable front court duo with six-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo before he was removed by team to the active roster due to undisclosed reasons.

However, placing the 31-year-old on the reserve list instead of an outright cut means San Miguel likely has plans to revive him during the conference.

Stone, meanwhile, played just seven NBA games in the 2016-2017 season, but has since made a name for himself in the NBA G League, Puerto Rico, and Taiwan’s T1 League.

This is also not the 25-year-old’s first appearance in a Philippine team as he was previously linked to the Meralco Bolt-laden Gilas team in the 2018 FIBA Asia Champion’s Cup in Thailand.

Stone will make his San Miguel debut on Wednesday, October 5, at the Araneta Coliseum as the Beermen face Blackwater Bossing at 3 p.m.RICO NAVARRO
