Manila, Philippines – More than 900,000 public school teachers will receive P1,000 each as the World Teachers’ Day Incentive Benefit (WTDIB) on October 5.
This was announced by Quezon City Rep. Marvin Rillo, member of the House appropriations committee, said “we have an itemized sum of P925 million that is meant to pay for the WTDIB of our teachers this year. The amount is specified in the 2022 General Appropriations Act.”
The allocation for teachers is clearly stated in the GAA’s 2022 special provision WTDIB and will be distributed during the annual World Teachers’ Day celebration.
“We wish to assure our teachers that we in Congress are absolutely determined to sustain the annual funding for their WTDIB,” ani Rillo.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated October 5 every year as World Teachers’ Day in recognition of the very important role of teachers in teaching children and youth.
He stated in Republic Act No. 10743 that October 5 is declared National Teachers’ Day to celebrate and praise teachers.
The provision of the law also lays down the observance of universal standards for the preparation, recruitment, employment and the continuous training of teachers.
“The observance marks the anniversary of the Oct. 5, 1966 global adoption of the UNESCO-International Labor Organization Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers. The approved document proclaimed the international benchmarks on the rights and responsibilities of teachers,” dagdag pa ni Rillo sa kaniyang pahayag.
This year, UNESCO has set the theme of World Teachers’ Day to be “The transformation of education begins with teachers.” Meliza Maluntag
