MANILA, Philippines – Based on the forecast made by the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office, the damage and losses reported in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol Region and Western Visayas affected in 170,762 hectares of farm lands reached P3.12 billion.
It affected 108,594 farmers and fishermen, with a combined production loss of 158,117 metric tons (MT).
According to the Department of Agriculture, among the affected products are rice, corn, cassava, hemp, high value crops, cattle and poultry, and fisheries.
Infrastructure, machinery and agricultural equipment were also damaged.
The agency further said that rice damage and losses amounted to P2.05-billion with an affected area of 163,162 hectares and production loss volume at 134,205 MT.
In this regard, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has taken steps through the Regional Field Offices (RFOs) to conduct an assessment and validation of the damage and losses caused by typhoon Karding in the agri-fisheries sector.
The DA continues to communicate with the concerned NGA, LGU and other offices related to DRRM for the impact of typhoon Karding, as well as the available resources for interventions and assistance. Santi Celario
