GUINAYANGAN, Quezon- The authorities are now investigating whether the shooting that killed a grandfather and injured the police this Saturday in this town was a ‘duel’.
The deceased was identified as Edgardo Relado, 66, resident of Brgy. Gapas, Guinayangan, Quezon.
The police officer identified as PSMS Randel Pulutan, 51, a resident of San Pablo City, Laguna and assigned to the Regional Health Unit of PRO-4A at Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba City, was treated at the hospital.
During the initial investigation by the Guinayangan Municipal Police Station, at 8:45PM, the incident occurred in the said area.
It was learned that Pulutan was drinking alcohol on the terrace of a house in that area when Relado arrived.
A few minutes later, the residents heard a series of gunshots, so they immediately knew the source of the shots.
They only saw Relado blinded, bathed in his own blood and lifeless due to bullet wounds in the chest while Pulutan was unconscious with a bullet wound in the thigh.
When the personnel of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) PNP-Quezon responded they picked up 2 caliber .45 guns and four cartridges.
Residents’ story is that Pulutan and Relado have been at loggerheads for a long time. Mary Anne Sapico
