INDIA – At least 26 devotees died after the trolley they were riding in fell into a lake pulled by a tractor in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India this Saturday, October 1.
According to Sudheer Kumar, senior local official of the said province, 50 people were on the tractor, mostly women and children who were on their way home from a Hindu temple.
“Twenty-six people died in the incident,” ani Kumar.
Apart from those who died, 16 were taken to the hospital due to wounds and injuries.
Tractors are commonly used in other towns in India as some of the roads there are not in good condition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
“Distressed by the tractor-trolley mishap took place in Kanpur. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones and prayers with the injured,” ani Modi. RNT/JGC
