MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Police District netted three people involved in human trafficking while five women were rescued in separate entrapment operations by the District Special Operations Unit and the District Women and Children Concern Section last night in the said city.
QCPD Director PBGEN Nicolas Torre III identified the first suspect as Wendel Balangatan, 38, resident of Novaliches, QC
According to DSOU chief PLTCOL Rolando Lorenzo Jr, they received a tip regarding the online booking of the girls.
Because of this, DSOU immediately started an operation where they were able to book two women for P6,500.
Together with the DWCCS, the alleged ‘pimp’ was arrested in front of the Verjandel Hotel located at No. 70 Kalayaan Ave., Brgy. Teachers Village West, QC around 10:20 pm, October 1 and the two girls were rescued.
Meanwhile, DSOU received a call from a concerned citizen regarding the ongoing pimping of women along Quezon Ave. Corner Dr. Garcia Sr. St., Brgy. Contest, QC
Around 1:25 in the morning, October 2 when the entrapment operation was conducted which resulted in the arrest of Cindy Salen, 47 years old, who lives in Brgy. South Triangle, QC and Florita Vera, 60, of Caloocan City and the survival of the three women.
The suspects have been detained and are facing charges of violating RA 9208 or Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 and RA 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
“I thank our QCPD police for being diligent in their sworn duty. In partnership with QCPD, we will take action regarding these incidents and we will make sure to arrest anyone who will be involved in these kind of incidents,” said QC Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte.
“Such operations by the QCPD will continue because we will not let our women be harmed,” said Torre III. Jan Sinocruz
